Keyboard Navigation

• All interactive elements are reachable by keyboard
• Visible focus states on every focusable element
• Skip-to-content link at the top of every page
• Escape key closes drawers, panels and dialogs

Screen Reader Support

• Semantic HTML with correct heading hierarchy
• ARIA labels for all form controls and icon buttons
• Screen-reader announcements when settings change
• Progress indicators with ARIA progressbar roles
• Alt text for all images and image placeholders

Colour and Contrast

• Colour combinations meet WCAG AA contrast ratios
• Status (complete, in progress, not started) is communicated by text, not colour alone
• Dark mode provides high-contrast reading for low-light conditions

Motion

• Respects the browser’s prefers-reduced-motion setting
• Manual reduced motion override available in settings
• Browser zoom is never disabled

Touch Targets

• All interactive elements meet minimum touch target sizes
• No content touches the edge of the screen on mobile
• No horizontal scrolling required on any viewport

Without JavaScript

The core text of every reading page is server-rendered and remains readable even if JavaScript fails to load. Interactive features (progress tracking, settings, endnote panels) require JavaScript but the manuscript text does not.
